New World School of the Arts x Artist Impact Report

Artist Impact Report

New World School of the Arts (NWSA) nurtures the early development of countless artists and leaders in the arts, and Commissioner (CMXNR) cultivates a new generation of local patrons to support them.

Through dedicated commissions, programming, and outreach, made possible by an impactful $100,000 gift* by Mitchell Wolfson Sr Foundation, we are uplifting NWSA and its artists to a broader community of supporters invested in their success. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished together over the past two years, with more to come in fall 2023.

Financial support.

With support from Mitchell Wolfson Sr Foundation and our member community, we commissioned four NWSA alumni artists and engaged eight artists, curators, interns, and creative workers in programming activities. In total, we facilitated $51,000 in artist payments, almost doubling our commitment to NWSA.

Community.

We dedicated $35,000 to exhibitions, events, and outreach efforts, to uplift these artists’ stories and build an affirming network of support for their practices. Our focus on people and relationships is deep and generative. Here’s an overview of the general and arts-invested audiences that we’ve reached thus far and continue to cultivate:

_ 2,000+ event attendees
_ 200+ emerging patrons
_ 100+ new collectors of commissioned works

Alignment.

We work with institutions and galleries to connect artists with curators and professionals in the field. Through mission alignment, CMXNR has supported NWSA’s artistic community in the following ways:

_ Three (3) events at NWSA
_ Curatorial support with Primary and Women Artists Archives Miami
_ Programming at The Deering Estate with Morel Doucet and Vũ
_ Artist studio and exhibition space at Bakehouse Art Complex with Vũ and Chire Regans
_ Intern and outreach support with misael soto at Dimensions Variable
_ Artmaking workshop at Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami with Jeffrey Noble
_ Funding and community with Maven Leadership Collective

Leadership.

Students benefit greatly from connecting with artists and arts leaders pursuing their professional paths on their own terms. Over the past two years, we guest lectured at NWSA and organized tours, directly impacting 250+ students.

*We’re so grateful to Miami Foundation for their support with our gift from the Mitchell Wolfson Sr Foundation. Please note that as Commissioner’s fiscal sponsor, Miami Foundation receives 4% ($4,000) in administrative fees.
