Getting Closer to Nature with Lee Pivnik

It’s been so fun seeing these pieces evolve as I make them, to watch them mutate from bundles of weeds to blooming flowers to mushrooms and seagrasses and urchins and back again.
— Lee Pivnik

On May 21, multidisciplinary artist Lee Pivnik led us through the calm waters on Biscayne Bay before welcoming us into their studio at The Deering Estate. A lazy Sunday morning that started with kayaking and ended with the unboxing of Crabgrass—a series of 50 unique ceramic vessels handmade for Commissioner—this experience with Lee has filled our hearts with curiosity and amazement.

In case you missed the event, there’s still time to visit The Deering’s Spring Contemporary: Closer to Nature exhibition through June 11, and participate in Symbiotic House 2023 programming.
