Artist Isabela Dos Santos, Gratitude & Abundance

Commissioner holiday cards are inspired by the Museum of Modern Art's Junior Council, who in 1954 initiated a holiday card program to help foster their common interest in the arts and a desire to see artists supported soundly and liberally in this country.

This year, Commissioner asked artist and animator Isabela Dos Santos to create a card that reflected the spirit of the holidays on a theme that we keep coming back to, gratitude. Titled The Art of Eating, it's a delicious reminder to be grateful for the abundance in our lives and to watch over each other and our neighbors.

About the Artist

Isabela is an animator and works frame-by-frame making drawings and miniature sculptures. Her first instinct is always to create tinier things out of her materials.

As she says in her interview with VoyageMIA “I taught myself how to do stop-motion animation when I was 16 at home in Weston, FL. I was into arts and crafts, dance, writing and physics, so animation was a natural convergence of all those interests: storytelling through visual art and movement.”

On nights and weekends she continues to create films, designs and miniatures. She also received a Borscht Film Co. grant, created a collaborative short film for YoungArts’ Transformations Film Series, and designed limited edition flip flops for Samba Sol through a partnership with YoungArts.

She is a proud alumna of National YoungArts Foundation, U.S. Presidential Scholars, Jacob's Pillow Internship Program and CalArts; has exhibited her work at PULSE Art Fair; and has received support from several esteemed programs. See more work by Isabela.
