Body Time with Body Freedom For Every(Body)
Body autonomy, body freedom, and body healing. On December 8, the final day of Miami Art Week, we took time for a collective breath and denouement anchored in rest and resistance with our friends at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM).
First, we met up with Antonia Wright, Season Seven Artist, for an intimate introduction to her installation State of Labor in the Bank of America Gallery. The generative sound art composition applies data sonification to protest the changing laws around access to safe and legal abortion. Afterward, we walked to PAMM Beach for an introduction to Body Freedom For Every(Body) with Curators and Co-Directors Jasmine Wahi and Rebecca Pauline Jampol. Exhibiting in a 27-foot truck on its last stop of a cross-country tour, the nomadic gallery featured works by 120 artists, including Miami-based and trans-territorial artists Coralina Rodriguez, Cornelius Tulloch, and Terrell Villiers. A healing sound bath led by interdisciplinary artist Agua Dulce and spiritual practitioner Sayje Hewitt followed, providing an essential space for participants to gather, grieve, and ground ourselves and each other.

Overwhelming gratitude to the dedicated teams at PAMM for hosting and holding space and to Maritza M. Lacayo, Associate Curator at PAMM, for her dedication in organizing the installation State of Labor by Antonia Wright. Biggest love to the champions of Commissioner and Project for Empty Space, and our broader communities for their deep collaboration and support. We’re also grateful to YoungArts for generously providing yoga mats to rest our heads. Photos by Lazaro Llanes
