Photography in the Field with Johanne Rahaman
On January 25, 2020, Commissioner Collectors, Alumni and Patrons gathered together to celebrate the commissioned work of Miami-based photographer Johanne Rahaman. Intertwined in the dense foliage of The Center for Subtropical Affairs, we talked about the concept of home and finding home among community, while preserving our stories through photos and memos.
Inspired by Johanne's work documenting Black communities throughout Florida, we turned the lens toward our creative community. We forged new relationships, learned about photographing from the heart (and with our smartphones), and truly shared. It was a special moment full of connection – to each other, to nature, and to this common thing that has brought us all together. We can't help but smile looking back at the photos.
