Of Pale And Furious Youth
2022 NWSA Rising Stars

Curated by Loriel Beltrán, the 2022 New World School of the Arts Rising Stars exhibition Of Pale and Furious Youth features the best of high school and college student work in a competitive and juried exhibition.  The title of this exhibition comes from a book of poetry by Arthur Rimbaud from 1873 called, A Season In Hell. As we find ourselves on a period of transition, adapting, and exiting in this very strange “season” of confinement and tragedy, artists address the ambiguities of this moment, the uncertainties, and the reflections of what could come.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1985, Loriel moved at age fifteen to Miami. He earned his BFA from the New World School of the Arts at MDC, and his work has been included in exhibitions at the Pérez Art Museum Miami; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; the Museo de Arte Acarigua-Araure in Venezuela; and the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia. Loriel has had solo exhibitions at Central Fine and the non-profit Locust Projects in Miami, and was also a co-founder and co-director of the artist run gallery and collective Noguchi Breton (formerly GUCCIVUITTON). Constructed Color is the artist’s first solo museum exhibition since a small project at the Wolfsonian’s Bridge Tender’s House in 2007.

Free and open to all, the exhibition is on view March 17–April 8, 2022. For more information, visit nwsa.mdc.edu.

Thanks to the support of Mitchell Wolfson Sr Foundation, we partner with New World School of the Arts to connect Commissioner’s aspiring art collector base with the next generation of emerging and accomplished visual artists and photographers.
