Join us for an interactive workshop with Rafael Domenech on the opening weekend of his solo exhibition Prologue: Residual images in italic at the tony Andrew Reed Gallery in Allapattah.
Exploring the overlapping friction between art, design, the built environment and the community it inhabits, Rafael is known for his collective-based projects that further emphasize the value of art as a catalyst for social exchange. As we get to know each other in the first months of Season Seven, what better way to connect than through an artist’s social practice designed to bring us together?
Cafecitos are on us, but capacity is limited to 35 people; first come, first served.
Rafael Domenech (b. 1989, Havana) is a New York and Miami-based artist whose practice is deeply rooted in notions of architecture and publishing, and their ability to shape and inform our lived experiences. Through his works, ranging from immersive installations, experimental publications, and artist books, he explores the overlapping friction between art, design, the built environment and the community it inhabits. His practice is bolstered by a commitment to collaborations and engagement, as he frequently organizes workshops and collective-based projects that further emphasize the value of art as a catalyst for social exchange. By exploring the relationship between the urban vernacular and reimagining communal spaces, Rafael's work challenges the traditional typology of objects and highlights the potential for spatial design to evoke meaningful responses from the public. His works explore the exhibition as an active site of production and aim to foster a dialogue between the individual and their surroundings, inviting them to reflect on their place within a larger social context.
Through workshops and collaborations, he creates a space for collective exploration and co-creation, blurring the boundaries between artist and audience. Recent exhibitions include Noor Riyadh Festival, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; ASE Foundation, Shanghai, China; Asia Society Texas, Houston; Locust Projects, Miami; 58th Carnegie International, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; The Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond; Passerelle centre d’art contemporain, Brest, France; Museum of Art and Design (MOAD), Miami, amongst many others. He holds an MFA from Columbia University. Rafael Domenech creates a space for collective exploration and co-creation, blurring the boundaries between artist and audience.
