Vulnerability and the Space Between Us

Miami-based artist Khánh Nguyên Hoàng Vũ (goes by Vũ, they/them) goes deep. In their curated performance where the only prompt was to “have a vulnerable conversation”, six artists moved through sound and space balancing a ceramic gourd and the trust between them. Collector members were given their artwork—hand-made, unique, and created with intentionality and care by Vũ—and all received a broadsheet zine thanks to our friends at Exile Books. An experience that was heart-opening and soul-filling in ways we could not have imagined, relive the event in photography by Andrea Lorena.

Much gratitude to the Deering Estate for hosting us, to our partners Maven Leadership Collective, New World School of the Arts and Mitchell Wolfson Foundation Sr. for making this commission possible; and to Bakehouse Art Complex for providing the studio Vũ needed for this commission. Finally, big love to Vũ’s cast and crew for sharing so openly: performance artists Gabriela Fernandez, Christine Cortes, Rae Woods, Dynelyn Rondon, Avi Young and Astrielle Williams; sound Artists Agua Dulce and Kristen Soller; and production assistant baby thompson.
