The More You Know with David Castillo & Locust Projects

There’s a big difference between buying and collecting art. In our signature "Collecting 101" event, members learned about collecting with purpose and vision from leading gallerist David Castillo at his eponymous gallery in the Miami Design District. On view was Stargazing: Shinique Smith, new paintings that channel the artist’s subconscious and intuitive state, while mapping connections between cultural memory, spirit and breath.

Then, we hopped over to Locust Projects for lunch and Herramientas (Levels & Bosses) by multimedia artist Leo Castañeda. The experiential installation includes oil paintings, virtual reality experiences, sculptural gaming furniture, immersive video, wall drawings, and more. Heike Dempster, curator of Sound, Stories in the project room, also presented on the films by artists Ania Freer, Helina Metaferia and Ambrose Rhapsody Murray.
