Something More Beautiful
With the moon over the Miami River that night, we gathered at the private home studios of commissioned artist Antonia Wright and partner, collaborator, and multidisciplinary artist Ruben Millares. In our very first reveal of Season Seven, Antonia presented Something more beautiful, a cyanotype on cotton rag created special for our community.
Antonia’s unique “photograms” were made by smashing tempered glass with a hammer and laying it over chemically treated paper to create non-negative exposures in the sun. Evoking the vulnerability and power of the human body, she uses glass as her material. Here, smashing is utilized as a creative gesture, drawing attention to the visual appearance of broken glass as a system of mapping, and offering a new interpretation of breaking as empowering.
Every Collector member received Something more beautiful—an edition of 50 made possible and funded by our collective membership. We are honored to be stewards of Antonia’s work, and grounded in our purpose to challenge systems and create spaces to imagine anew.
