From museums and galleries, to public art and pop-up exhibits, there's so much to see and do around the city this spring:

1 - Your Mommas Voice in the Back of Your Head public art sculpture at The Bass
Najja Moon's new Miami Beach monument in Collins Park honors mothers in their own words by emitting recordings of women speaking maternal affirmations, reminders and critiques. Listen closely for phrases such as, “You can do anything you put your mind to baby” and “You’ll understand when you have kids.” In an interview with The Art Newspaper, curator Leilani Lynch explained “Najja’s piece is a real testament to motherhood and labor that has gone under-recognized." On view through January 2022.

2 - Art on the Plaza at MOCA
Check out the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami's Art on the Plaza, a year-long series of newly commissioned, temporary public artworks, organized by Amanda Sanfilippo Long. The outdoor exhibit features several Commissioner collaborators including Morel Doucet with Stephen Arboite, Nice N’ Easy and Najja Moon. Currently on view through April 18 is The Visible Invisible by Studio AMLgMATD (Laz Ojalde and Natalie Zlamalova). While you're there, visit Mark Handforth's luminous Electric Tree at Griffing Park.

3 - Ema Ri and Sinisa Kukec at Spinello Projects
Two singular exhibits by local artists Ema Ri and Sinisa Kukec show the importance of material and process as it relates to everyday things, reshaping the meaning of walls and skin. If you missed our event at Spinello Projects last fall, this is your opportunity to revisit works by artists Franky Cruz, Francisco De La Torre and Cara Despain, on view in the upper level galleries until April 20.

4 - Emmett Moore's The Grotto
Part fiction, part reality, Emmett Moore presents The Grotto, an immersive installation in the Miami Design District. Comprised of a series of faux coral boulders, the secluded lounge is inspired by coral rock quarries and the mythology surrounding the fictional identities that form around these places. Go for the art, stay to escape. On view through April 28.

5 - Inter | Sectionality: Diaspora Art from the Creole City
This urgent exhibition curated by visionary arts leader Rosie Gordon-Wallace is presented at a time when Diaspora artists and voices are challenging social injustices, celebrating identities, and re-activating and bridging communities through contemporary art and scholarship. The complexities and diversities represented are emergent, and in many cases, ascendant, across the world. On view through May 31, be sure to visit while you're in the Design District.

6 - Building Your Collection with David Castillo
Don't forget to join our signature Collecting 101 class coming up this Tuesday, March 30 at 6 PM with leading art dealer David Castillo. Ask those questions you've always wanted to ask, get a solid grasp of the basics, and bring your favorite beverage to this virtual event generously supported by Tito's Handmade Vodka and Ginger Tree. No RSVP required, here's the link on Zoom.

We hope to see you virtually and out and about enjoying the great shows by artists based in our tropical city. For in-person events, please remember we all have a role to play in keeping each other safe. Kindly wear a mask and practice physical distancing.
