- One of the biggest Halloween celebrations occurs every year on Frenchmen Street in the Faubourg Marigny. Masses of partygoers, including locals and tourists, take to the streets in their elaborate outfits.
- “Happy Feelings” at The Barnett—Halloween Edition—is happening in the hotel lobby till 2 AM with DJ RQ Away.

At the Contemporary Arts Center, P.6 artists explore histories that resonate in New Orleans related to local traditions, carnival, the acknowledgment of immigrant and indigenous communities, and the interconnectedness between humans and the environment.

For over 300 years people of the African Diaspora have called New Orleans home and have created a culture that is abundant and beautiful. Led by The Black School board member Malik Bartholomew, this introduction will show you the French Quarter and a small part of Treme from the view of African people. The walking tour is approx. 1.5 hours; wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

The Black School is an experimental art school teaching Black, PoC students and allies to become agents of change in their communities through art and design workshops that address local community needs. Together we’ll engage in an imagination-building exercise to demonstrate their methodology for designing creative activism projects. After the workshop, we’ll dig into catered lunch with a broader group of invited artists, practitioners, and visitors. Featured artists with P.6 installations onsite include Tuan Mami and Amanda Williams.

Private transport will pick us up from Xavier University and bring us to our next destination. On our way, we’ll ride by a mural/public art installation by Stephanie Syjuco at 5523 St Claude Ave.

Ford Motor Plant

In the early 20th century, Henry Ford built assembly plants and factories throughout the U.S. The town of Arabi, located just east of Downtown New Orleans, provided an ideal location to export cars to Central and South America and offered easy access to railroad lines and the Mississippi River. At peak production, as many as 1,000 workers turned out 300 cars per day until 1933. The plant has also been used as a warehouse by the US army, a local Ford dealership, and a freight storage facility. Featured artists with P.6 artists onsite include: Zalika Azim, Teresa Baker, Mel Chin, rafa esparza, Blas Isasi, Eisa Jocson, Maia Ruth Lee, Kelley-Ann Lindo, Karyn Olivier, Venuri Perera, Dewey Tafoya, and Jeannette Ehlers.

*Accessibility note: The Ford Motor Plant is an old, industrial building. It is not climate controlled, and there is no elevator access to the second floor.

Private transport will pick us up from the Ford Motor Plant and return to the hotel, but you are welcome to find alternative transport and keep going on your own. For folks using Commissioner transport, if we have time, we may make a quick stop at UNO St. Claude on the way back. Let’s play it by ear.

University of New Orleans, School of the Arts Gallery St. Claude (UNO) is the only local university to maintain an off-campus art gallery. Let’s experience the work of Deborah Jack—a multidisciplinary artist whose work includes video installation, photography, and text. Her practice engages a variety of strategies for mining the intersections of histories, cultural memory, ecology, and climate change.

Named after the first stage of twilight, Bethany Collins’ Civil Dusk (2024) will begin as sunlight fades. The performance consists of multiple versions of Auld Lang Syne sung simultaneously, while focusing on a version historically sung by soldiers in the trenches of war. The melody remains constant as the lyrics change, resulting in a familiar chaos. RSVP required via CMXNR, we’ve held 10 spaces for the group.

New Orleans artist Quintron’s Weather Warlock is one in a series of custom-built weather-controlled analog synthesizers. At The End of the World, Weather Warlock is an interactive instrument that serves as a stand-alone installation and generative composition. New Orleans Airlift will host a post-performance breakfast at the incredible Music Box Village.
