Commissioner and the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami (MOCA) team up to present another very special textile-inspired edition of MOCA Makers Workshops featuring Jen Clay, New World School of the Arts alumna. This event is open to Patrons and Collectors. 20 spots, first come first served. RSVP here.
Jen is a multimedia artist living in Fort Lauderdale. She creates textiles and animations for performances, videos and installations. Jen researches encounters with the unknown such as H.P. Lovecraft stories of cosmic madness, sci-fi movies, actual accounts of hallucinations and supernatural sightings. She was awarded the 2019 South Florida Cultural Consortium fellowship for her wearable works, which are created for performances and videos and often speak directly to the viewer, revealing obsession through dialog. Her video work has been shown at Acre TV in Chicago; at Visionary Film Festival in Milan, Italy; on Squeaky Wheel, an art TV public broadcasting channel in Buffalo, N.Y.; and at Glasgow Independent Film Festival. In 2017, for the OFF Site Performance Series organized by the Girls’ Club Collection in Fort Lauderdale, Clay created Nearing, a 20-minute performance including large-scale soft sculpture, video projection of animation, dialog, wearables and soundscape by collaborator Elise Anderson.
In 2019, the Young At Art museum invited Jen to create her first large-scale site-specific piece, Welcome to Me & You. This piece is an immersive carpet and video installation with interactive elements and projected videos of characters that speak to the viewers.
