  • David Castillo & Locust Projects Miami Design District Miami, FL 33127 United States (map)

There’s a big difference between buying and collecting art. In our signature "Collecting 101" event, learn about collecting with purpose and vision from leading art dealer David Castillo—one of the world’s top 250 art dealers according to The New York Times. Then, join us at the nearby Locust Projects for lunch and an exhibitions tour, featuring Herramientas (Levels & Bosses) by multimedia artist Leo Castañeda. His installation in the main gallery includes oil paintings, virtual reality experiences, sculptural gaming furniture, immersive video, wall drawings, and more.

Saturday, October 15 in the Miami Design District
11 AM—12:30 PM | Collecting 101 with David Castillo at 3930 NE 2nd Ave., Suite 201
12:30—1:30 PM | Lunch and exhibitions at Locust Projects at 3852 N Miami Ave.

This event is for Commissioner Season Five members. RSVP essential. Approximately 7-10 minutes of walking (or 3 minutes of driving) between spaces.

David Castillo holds degrees in History and Art History from Yale University. David has held positions at museums, including the Yale University Art Gallery. He opened his eponymous gallery in 2005, which has become a pre-eminent space in the U.S. for art once excluded from the history of art and history more generally. The gallery’s artists are often cited as defining the aesthetics and critical ideas of our time. While always focused on its long-time roster of artists, the program actively engages in finding the most compelling and relevant emerging artists of our time. The Herramientas exhibition at Locust Projects represents the next stage in the multi-year (Levels & Bosses) game development project originated by Leo Castañeda, and serves as the launch of a new fine-art video game studio, Otro Inventario, the first of its kind in Miami.  Herramientas invites visitors to play the videogame's prologue, premiered in an environment that echoes the development of game itself and traces the evolution of the game through oil paintings by the artist, virtual reality experiences, sculptural gaming furniture, immersive video, wall drawings, and more.
