Open to the Public | The Front Room: ArtLoft Premiere Screening & Talk Back

  • New World Gallery 25 Northeast 2nd Street Miami, FL, 33132 United States (map)

South Florida PBS, Commissioner, and New World School of the Arts (NWSA) invite you to The Front Room for the premiere screening of Art Loft’s Season 11 and a talk back with exhibition artists Friday, Loni Johnson, VantaBlack, and curator Pamela “Zee” Lopez Del Carmen. The Front Room evokes a place of comfort, safety and of raw intimacy, where one can be right or wrong and called out but never put out. Together, the artists—all alumnae of NWSA—use their distinct multi-disciplinary practices to erect and consecrate a space that centers liberation and self-containment. Join us for an unforgettable evening in the gallery with live music and refreshments, followed by the screening and artist talk under the stars.

Everyone is welcome. Free and open for all with RSVP. Event Parking: Parking Garage B, Wolfson Campus, 35 NE 2nd AVE, Miami FL 33132

About Art Loft: Art Loft is an Emmy® award-winning 30-minute program, curating and showcasing the best of South Florida’s diverse art scene through thoughtful storytelling. About the exhibition: Friday, Loni Johnson, and Chire “VantaBlack'“ Regans invite you to The Front Room: a place of comfort, of safety, of raw intimacy, where one can be right or wrong and called out but never put out. Together these artists use their distinct multi-disciplinary practices to erect and consecrate a space that centers liberation from the deep social practice of self-containment and self-negation. A house is nothing but walls; a home is an intimate space that frees us from the labor of adaptation. Their collective work of material practice produces a place of reconciliation as we navigate through identity and memory. Curated by Pamela “Zee” Lopez Del Carmen. The exhibition has been extended until February 20, 2023.

The Front Room was made possible with generous support from Oolite Arts and Commissioner; and the exhibition video was directed by Juan Luis Matos of Preguntas Studio. New World School of the Arts was created by the Florida Legislature as a Center of Excellence in the performing and visual arts. It is an educational partnership of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade College and University of Florida.
